This working paper is examining the importance of employment for the integration of third country nationals, and specifically asylum seekers. It focuses on the example of asylum seekers in Sweden, a country whose legislation encourages access to the labour market for those seeking asylum. The paper analyses the main obstacles to asylum seekers’ access to the labour market in Sweden and provides recommendations on how they can be addressed.

ECRE Working Papers present research and analysis on asylum and migration. Their purpose is to stimulate debate by showcasing emerging ideas. Working Papers are commissioned by ECRE; the views they contain are those of their authors and do not necessarily represent ECRE’s positions.
