ECRE calls on EU to revise the Reception Directive

Date: 27-05-2008
The rules on reception of asylum seekers are due to be reviewed later this year. In view of this, ECRE has published recommendations on how best to support the development of better and more harmonised reception conditions across the European Union.
Reception is not only about accommodation and the bare minimum needed for survival. It should also address the social well-being of asylum seekers. Poor material reception conditions coupled with lack of employment opportunities during the asylum procedure can lead to a vicious circle of isolation, discrimination and poor integration prospects.
