Workshop on International Advocacy
Workshop "Improving International Advocacy for NGOs", 24-25 October 2006, Moscow, Russian Federation The two-day workshop was held in Moscow for 26 NGO representatives from Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine and the Russian Federation. The agenda covered practical lobbying techniques to the UN, the Council of Europe and the European Union structures. Speakers included Marjorie Farquharson, former Programme Advisor of Council of Europe, Jan Doerfel, UN specialist and barrister from the Centre on Social Minorities and Bill Seary, consultant working with ECRE. Through the use of case studies, effective advocacy strategies for NGOs from Eastern Europe were discussed. The second part of the seminar was focused on the analysis of cases from Russia and Ukraine to the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) and impact at national level. Svetlana Martynova from Memorial Human Rights Centre, "Migration Rights Network" in Russia and Arkadii Bushenko from "Kharkiv Human Rights Group" in Ukraine shared their experiences of taking cases to the ECHR followed by discussions on good practice by individual countries, Belarus, Moldova, Russian Federation and Ukraine. |
