Refugee Resettlement - Broadening the basis in Europe

The project 'Resettlement - broadening the basis in Europe' aims to enhance knowledge and political debate in EU member states to engage in refugee resettlement - as an additional instrument of refugee protection. The activities cover three main areas: bringing potential actors of resettlement into debates with one another; making information available on resettlement for a non-specialised public; and providing a forum for discussion and exchange of civil society actors with UNHCR.

The project is primarily carried out by Churches' Commission for Migrants in Europe (CCME) and ECRE, along with church related agencies and ECRE members. Co-operation and exchange with and participation of other actors with an interest in refugee protection issues, UNHCR or national governments will also be continued. The project runs from December 2006-December 2007.

This project takes up the conclusions of previous resettlement project organised by CCME between 2003 and 2006, 'Making Resettlement Work' and 'Resettlement Capacity Building for Action', as well as ECRE's 'Way Forward' series of papers.
