Launch of the Guidelines on the Treatment of Chechen IDPs, Asylum Seekers and Refugees in Europe

ECRE worked with NGO partners in the project countries and with ECRE member agencies in the EU to update its Guidelines on the Treatment of Chechen IDPs, Asylum Seekers and Refugees in Europe.

The launch event was hosted by the MEP Bart Staes at the European Parliament on 21st March 2007. The event was attended by MEPs, members of the Commission, refugee representatives, UNHCR, and others. A press conference was held in the morning.

The launch combined information on the situation for Chechen refugees and the effects of the Dublin II regulation on this group. ECRE invited a lawyer from Memorial Human Rights Centre in Ingushetia to speak about the situation in the North Caucasus as well as Chechen refugee representatives from Poland, Austria and Belgium.
