FLEMISH REFUGEE ACTION: "CELEBRITIES CREATE VISIBILITY"

Flemish Refugee Action has worked out a very innovative campaign, which deserves to be put in the ECRE Member Spotlight. Scala, Belgium's most popular girls choir, directed by the Kolacny brothers sing the song ‘Belgium', this time joined by three refugee girls, Petimat (19) from Chechnya, Daniella (11) from Burundi and Vesara (12) from Albania. The Kolacny brothers, which enjoy quite some fame in Belgium, are familiar with the plight of refugees as their grandfather had to flee Vienna during WWI.

ECRE talked to Eef Heylighen, Media and Communications officer at Flemish Refugee Action, who highlighted the campaign.

FRANCE TERRE D'ASILE: Call for a European protection of unaccompanied children

In the last months the European Union has been working towards a Community legislative framework for unaccompanied children. This reflection will soon come to reality when a Plan of action for unaccompanied minors is presented by the European Commission.

We are thus calling for a European protection of unaccompanied minors. This call is a means to introduce the European civil society's positions to the European institutions, as well as to all the decision-makers interested in this matter. This will lead to a true recognition of the fundamental rights that these children are entitled to.

Only a strong mobilization will enable the creation of a real alternative to the Member States' proposals, generally keener on controlling migration flows than protecting the child's best interests.

If you want to sign the Call please go to:
